Bill Murray is sending his best to Bruce Willis as he continues his battle against dementia with his family.

Murray, 74, was promoting his new movie The Friend, in theaters this Friday, with his co-star Naomi Watts on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live.

The beloved funnyman was asked by host Andy Cohen which of his nine films with writer-director Wes Anderson was his favorite.

While he didn’t necessarily answer the question directly, he did speak briefly about his 2012 film Moonrise Kingdom, where he shared the screen with Willis.

‘Moonrise Kingdom was a really beautiful, lovely film, and I got to work with and have a wonderful time with Bruce Willis,’ Murray said, adding, ‘we should remember today, he just had a birthday.’

Willis did in fact celebrate his 70th birthday earlier this month, with Murray adding, ‘Yeah Bruce Willis is a good guy, a good f***ing guy.’

Murray added Willis, ‘was a good friend and and really always understood,’ before revealing how he first met the young actor in New York City decades earlier.

‘Bruce Willis was a page at NBC, when I was on Saturday Night Live. Yeah, he was a page,’ Murray recalled.

‘And his job was to come in to refill… this sounds like insane s**t, but his job was to come and go to the dressing rooms and refill the M&M’s and pretzels kind of thing in the actors rooms,’ Murray continued.

He then added, ‘And I remember when I met him after he was already a successful guy, he said, you and Gilda were nice to me,’ referring to beloved original SNL cast member Gilda Radner, with Cohen and Watts clearly touched by the story.

‘And I thought, OK. And that’s you know, I always thought, OK, I’m good with this guy. But he was a he was a good guy,’ Murray said.

Along with Moonrise Kingdom, Murray and Willis also shared the screen in 2015’s Rock the Kasbah from director Barry Levinson.

Willis’ family announced his retirement from acting in March 2022 after he was diagnosed with aphasia, a disorder that affects language comprehension and expression.

Less than a year later in February 2023, he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, which involves the degeneration of the brain’s frontal and temporal lobes.

Willis’ loving wife Emma posted a sweet tribute earlier this month on their 16th wedding anniversary.
‘Today marks 16 years with the love of a lifetime. We’ve shared monumental highs and devastating lows, and through it all, we’ve built something timeless,’ she said.
‘I’m so deeply grateful for every chapter I’ve had with him – and all the ones we’ll continue to write, in our language of unconditional love,’ she added.
