The split between Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman has been called one of the cleanest celebrity divorces in history, but don’t mistake clean for painless.
Court documents out of Davidson County, Tennessee, laid out the entire playbook. Kidman will have their daughters, 17-year-old Sunday Rose and 14-year-old Faith Margaret, for 306 days a year, while Urban will see them just 59 days annually, mostly Sundays and alternating weekends.
Holidays are divided like a custody calendar straight out of family court. Father’s Day belongs to him, Mother’s Day to her, and Christmas rotates, although the girls always return to Kidman on Boxing Day. Neither will pay child support because Urban has already prepaid obligations by covering school and childcare costs in advance.
On the money side, their split is almost surgical. Together, they are worth somewhere between $325 million and $800 million, with Kidman holding the lion’s share. Yet neither owes the other a dime. There is no alimony, no spousal support, and no joint accounts. They each keep what they earned and what they already held in their names. Even their sprawling real estate empire, which includes 11 properties across Nashville, Beverly Hills, New York, and Sydney, was tucked away in trusts and LLCs, so who gets what was already sorted years ago.
The Nashville family home stays with Kidman and the girls, at least until they are grown. Urban, meanwhile, has been living in his own place since the summer. Furniture and personal items were divided evenly, like a yard sale with rules in place.
Then came the clause. Buried in their prenup was what insiders call the “cocaine clause.” It guaranteed Urban up to $17 million as long as he stayed sober during their 19-year marriage. Sources close to Kidman say that provision has her furious, since she supported him through his battles with addiction only to see him benefit financially in the end. Whether you see it as protection or betrayal, it remains one of the more bizarre details ever to surface in a celebrity divorce.
On paper, both are listed as earning about $1.2 million a year, though Kidman reportedly pulled in $31 million in 2024 alone. For legal purposes, the filings made them look like equals, even if their bank balances told a very different story.
Legal experts are calling the settlement a masterclass in planning. One attorney noted that there are no ongoing payments, no joint assets, and no courtroom battle, only a blueprint for moving on. In other words, they built the escape hatch years before the fire started.
The timeline shows just how fast it all happened once the news broke. Urban signed the parenting plan on August 29. Kidman signed it on September 6. The world learned of the split on September 29. By September 30, she had filed for divorce.
So here is the bottom line. Nicole Kidman keeps her fortune, her Nashville home, and primary custody of the kids. Keith Urban keeps his millions, his guitars, and a payout that hinges on staying clean. No one walks away broke, yet both walk away changed.
It may be neat on paper, but no amount of tidy legal language can untangle nineteen years of love and life. And that is the thing about country stories, because sometimes the saddest verses are written in silence.
