Today Show host Savannah Guthrie broke her silence about her divorce during a recent appearance on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast Reclaiming.

While discussing her book Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere during an episode released July 1, Guthrie touched upon the difficulty she had recovering from her divorce from her first husband, journalist Mark Orchard.

“I don’t want to talk about getting divorced,” she told Lewinsky. “It was horrible and sad, and it broke my heart. It took me years to recover.”

The couple were married from 2005 to 2009.

Guthrie explained that she didn’t want to share too many details about her divorce from Orchard when she was writing her book. And during her appearance on Lewinsky’s podcast, the Today host still appeared hesitant to reveal too much about her difficult journey.

“I’m not blaming anyone but I don’t really want to get into it,” she said, later adding, “It’s the one thing I didn’t want to talk about.”

After her divorce in 2009, Guthrie later married Michael Feldman in 2014. The couple share two children, Vale, 10, and Charley, 8.

The NBC host has said that her divorce from Orchard “was a huge disappointment.”

“When I was 36, I got divorced. I wasn’t married long,” she told Us Weekly. “That was a huge disappointment. I was pretty sure that I had lost my opportunity and more or less ruined my life.”

In her book, Guthrie shared a disclaimer that she would not be writing much about her personal life because “some of it was too personal and too embarrassing.”

But she wanted readers to understand she “experienced adversity” without sharing all of the “gory details.”

“I’m down here and my feet are burning on the pavement—I just don’t want to tell you why the pavement was so hot or how many blisters I had on my feet,” she said on the podcast. “I don’t want to give you the gory details. But I do want to share with you and I understand that you may have these questions and maybe this won’t be enough for you.”
