Nicole Kidman supporters are furious after footage emerged of Keith Urban and a 25-year-old musician just days before the Aussie actress filed for divorce.
‘Love you baby’ Keith Urban sings Happy Birthday to his then wife Nicole in 2018
Nicole Kidman shared a video of Keith Urban along with his fans at a concert in Wisconsin singing her Happy Birthday, back in 2018.
Keith Urban changed the lyrics to a song he wrote about Nicole Kidman to reference a 25-year-old musician just days before the A-list couple’s split went public.
Maggie Baugh, a young artist who has joined Urban onstage for his High and Alive World Tour during the North American summer, posted footage of the moment on Instagram on September 26.
“Did he just say that,” Baugh captioned the video, which showed Urban singing his 2016 release The Fighter.
Instead of singing, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter,” Urban changed it to, “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player”, before throwing his head back in delight.
Fans have labelled the move classless given the song was inspired by Kidman, who filed for divorce this week as news broke their 19-year marriage was over.
“It is so trashy to do this to a song inspired by his wife. It’s the ultimate ick,” one wrote.
“Wow, that song was made for Nicole. For him to do that tells us what he’s really all about,” added another. “That’s just disgusting. Nicole deserves much better”.
Urban, 57, explained in 2017 the song was about how his role as a husband was to ensure Kidman’s “tenderness” wasn’t hardened by the world.

“It was just a very quick, quick song to write, because I literally thought about Nic and I and our relationship in the beginning, and some of the things we had said all went into that song,” Urban said.
“It’s all from a conversation my wife and I had early on in our relationship, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her.
“The song is about wanting to heal somebody, wanting to take care of somebody, wanting to protect somebody. It’s really like a vow in so many ways.”

Claims Urban is already dating ‘younger woman’
The outcry over the lyric change comes after it was rumoured Urban has moved on with a new woman amid the breakdown of his marriage.
“All the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman. Let’s just say, Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it,” one anonymous source told entertainment website TMZ.
Another claimed that news of the new relationship was “all over Nashville”, where the couple are based.
Meanwhile, a “well-placed Nashville music business PR source” alleged to the Daily Mail that the mysterious “younger” woman in question also works in the music industry.
“The rumour is that he’s with a younger woman in the business. It’s all everyone is talking about. Everyone wants to know who, but so far, that’s a mystery.”
There is no suggestion Baugh is the woman at the centre of the rumours but that hasn’t stopped fans jumping to conclusions and bombarding her with abuse on her Instagram page.

Kidman and Urban, who wed in 2006 and share two children together, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, are yet to publicly comment on their split.
The New York Post reported that Urban has moved out of their family home in Nashville, Tennessee, and bought a home of his own in the same city.
A source told the outlet Kidman is “devastated” by the marriage ending: “She feels betrayed”.
Another source told People magazine Urban has been “going through some stuff” in recent months.
“He has been making questionable choices for some time now and this was not the case of them just drifting apart,” added a Kidman source.
Urban’s split with his wife is the second of two major breakups the musician has initiated this year.
In January, it emerged Urban had also ended his almost 30-year association with his band leader, bass guitarist Jerry Flowers.
He wasn’t the only one to depart with stalwarts Nathan Barlow (guitar and vocals), Pete Kuzma (keyboard), Jeff Linsenmaier (track guy and Ableton) and Terence Clark (drums) all benched as Urban broke with tradition and moved ahead with plans to refresh his band.
In June, Urban told Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson the “timing felt right” for change.
