The former couple, married for five years before divorcing in 2006, parted ways when Guilfoyle moved to New York for a news job and later joined Fox News. A self-described “proud Republican and conservative” since age 18, Guilfoyle insisted that Newsom, 55, was fully aware of her political stance when they tied the knot.

“I didn’t change—he did,” Guilfoyle asserted. “He used to champion small businesses and hardworking people with pride. Now, he’s been pulled so far by the radical left that he’s become unrecognizable.”

Newsom Reflects on Guilfoyle’s Past

Guilfoyle’s retort came as a direct response to Newsom’s comments on The Axe Files podcast on Tuesday. Newsom described his ex-wife as ambitious and “whip-smart,” recalling her ties to prominent Democrats when he began his tenure as San Francisco Mayor in 2004. “She was a different person back then,” he said. “She worked for a progressive district attorney and spent time in Democratic circles—we were close to Kamala Harris.”

He noted that after his election, Guilfoyle relocated to New York for a Court TV role, eventually landing at Fox News. “I think she fell prey to Fox’s culture in a big way,” Newsom remarked, anticipating her rebuttal: “She’d probably say she found her true calling.”

Since their split, Guilfoyle left Fox News in 2018 to join Donald Trump’s campaign and became engaged to Donald Trump Jr. in 2020.
