Hillary Vaughn and Peter Doocy, two well-known figures from FOX News, have embarked on their journey as parents with the arrival of their first child, Bridget Blake Doocy. The delighted couple shared this joyful news with PEOPLE magazine, marking a memorable milestone in their lives.
Bridget was born on February 1 in northern Virginia, weighing 8 lbs., 1 oz., and measuring 21 inches. She is the first child of Hillary Vaughn, 32, a Fox Business reporter, and Peter Doocy, 35, a Fox News White House correspondent. With a touch of humor, Hillary confided, “I’ve been unintentionally preparing for motherhood my whole career by trying to get answers from lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Now I’m asking Bridget: ‘Are you hungry, gassy, or both?’ It’s not easy!”
Hillary recounted the moment her water broke while heading to Capitol Hill, but she was ready. “I knew where the offices of former doctor-senators were. Senator Barrasso, a renowned Wyoming physician, had told me the day before to call if I needed help. Thankfully, I didn’t need him to deliver the baby!” She laughed, adding, “I’ve only been a mom for a week, but it’s already the greatest assignment I’ve ever taken on.”
Peter Doocy also shared some lighthearted moments from the White House, where he received baby name suggestions. “The Press Secretary once joked I could name her Karine, and I teased we might go with ‘Joe-sephine’ after the President. But in the end, we settled on Bridget Blake Doocy,” he said. Photos of the little family show Bridget looking adorable in a pink onesie embroidered with her name, complete with a matching bow.
Steve Doocy, host of FOX & Friends and the proud new grandfather, couldn’t hide his excitement. He told PEOPLE, “In my book on fatherhood, I quoted that a man’s life has three stages: believing in Santa Claus, not believing, then becoming Santa Claus. Peter, congrats on reaching stage three!” He recalled Peter’s birth, when his wife Kathy, mid-contractions, asked about a college fund. “I just said, ‘Why bother?’ and asked for a PEOPLE magazine to do the crossword. Now PEOPLE is announcing my son’s baby news!”
Steve is thrilled about his “rule-breaking” grandparent role: “Grandkid wants Dairy Queen every day? Let’s go! Watching our kids become great parents warms our hearts. Kathy and I are ready to spoil the grandkids silly, with endless hugs and candy.” He also revealed that Bridget was born on St. Brigid’s Day, the Irish patron saint of babies. “Legend says St. Brigid turned water into beer. We hope our Bridget waits until she’s 21 to try that trick!” he quipped.
