EW has obtained an internal ABC News memo announcing Pilgrim’s departure after first joining the network in 2016.

EVA PILGRIM on GMA3, Deborah Norville for Inside Edition

Longtime ABC News personality and GMA3 co-anchor Eva Pilgrim has left the network after nearly 10 years, and she is set to replace Deborah Norville as lead anchor of the CBS-produced newsmagazine program Inside Edition.

After a press release went out Monday afternoon announcing Pilgrim had joined the Inside Edition desk, Entertainment Weekly confirmed through a source familiar with the situation that Pilgrim exited ABC to take the job.

In an internal email distributed to ABC News staffers and obtained by EW Monday morning, the division’s president, Almin Karamehmedovic, told employees that Pilgrim “decided to embark on her next chapter and will be departing ABC News,” while praising her as “a wonderful member of the ABC News team for more than a decade” of work.

“She worked her way up through local news, gaining extensive experience across the country until we were fortunate that she joined us here in New York,” the email read. “She is tireless and enthusiastic, always ready for the next assignment.”

The email concluded, “We’re grateful to Eva for her many contributions and happy she will continue to have a presence within our ABC News Group — via her new venture in syndication which includes distribution on two of our ABC-owned stations, WLS-Chicago and KTRK-Houston. Please join me in wishing Eva well and thanking her for her many years of friendship and hard work.”

EW has reached out to representatives for Inside Edition and ABC for comment.

“Anchoring Inside Edition is truly a dream job,” Pilgrim said in a statement. “I have been an avid viewer and fan of the show for many years. I’m pinching myself that I get to work with this amazing team. It’s truly an honor to join a show with such a long, rich history.”

Pilgrim will be the show’s fourth anchor heading into season 38, succeeding Norville, who announced her departure from the show in April.

Norville joined the show as lead anchor in 1995, following inaugural anchor David Frost and his successor, Bill O’Reilly, who departed shortly before Norville’s arrival.

Charles Lachman, an executive producer on Inside Edition, added in a press statement that his team feels like they “won the jackpot to have Eva join” the show.

“She has solid news chops from her years as a reporter and anchor in national and local news, plus a warm relatability that resonates with audiences,” he continued. “We look forward to having a journalist of her caliber take Inside Edition into its next chapter.”

Upon joining ABC News in 2016, Pilgrim’s work as a correspondent could be seen across contributions to multiple programs at the network, including 20/20Good Morning AmericaNightline, and World News Tonight with David Muir.
