On July 4, 2025, as Americans celebrated Independence Day, floods struck (archived) Central Texas, killing at least 82 people (archived) as of July 6, including 28 children, and causing damage across multiple counties. Social media users began sharing claims about country music star George Strait donating $3.5 million to support flood victims.

For example, one Facebook page named Country Heartstrings posted (archived) on July 6:

As Texas faced a devastating flood disaster that caused heavy damage and claimed at least 51 lives — including 15 children — a legendary name in country music managed to warm people’s hearts. George Strait, a man known for his private, quiet demeanor, surprised everyone by donating $3.5 million to support the victims and the families of those still missing in this horrific flood. But he didn’t stop there — what George Strait did next left fans both astonished and deeply moved.

The post received more than 99,000 reactions as of this writing, with at least two other similar claims (archived and archived) appearing elsewhere on Facebook.

However, our investigation found no credible evidence supporting reports that Strait made a $3.5 million public donation to Texas flood relief efforts. Snopes reached out to Strait’s publicists to learn more. A representative responded via email: “We have not issued a statement about aid as we’re still determining how best to support the community.”

The Facebook posts directed users to a blog post (archived) on pollywebart.com, a website published under the “7MEDIA” banner. The site shared an almost identical layout to tintinhthanh.online, a site Snopes has previously flagged for spreading false sports stories.

The article claimed “George Strait’s team confirmed on Friday that the singer personally pledged $3.5 million to support immediate relief efforts” and included a statement supposedly from Strait through his publicist. The post contained details about the supposed donation amount, volunteer activities, and personal appearances, yet no news media outlets reported on the matter, per searches of Google, Bing (archived) and DuckDuckGo (archived). Had Strait donated such an amount, such an action would have generated significant news coverage.

Major media outlets covered the flood disaster and reported on other charitable contributions, such as the National Football League (NFL) Foundation’s $1.5 million (archived) donation along with $500,000 contributions each from the Dallas Cowboys (archived) and Houston Texans (archived).

While Strait had a documented history of charitable giving, including the Jenifer Strait Memorial Foundation established (archived) in memory of his daughter and disaster relief efforts (archived) during Hurricane Harvey, to date no verified announcements regarding July 2025 flood relief donations have been made through official channels.
