Just weeks after the Season 23 finale of American Idol, John Foster and Breanna Nix have reunited — and fans can’t get enough of their new duet.
The second- and third-place finalists joined forces in Nashville during CMA Fest 2025, delivering an emotional acoustic version of Randy Travis’ classic hit “I Told You So.” The surprise collaboration has fans buzzing, with many begging the pair to release a full version of the song.
From Idol Favorites to Breakout Artists
Jamal Roberts may have taken home the crown for American Idol Season 23, but John Foster and Breanna Nix have emerged as fan-favorite stars in their own right. In the days following the finale on May 18, 2025, all three finalists dominated the iTunes charts:
John, Breanna, and Jamal held the Top 3 spots on the all-genre chart
Breanna’s debut single “Higher” reached #1 on the iTunes Country chart
Their momentum didn’t stop there. All three artists were featured performers at the pre-CMA Fest celebration in Nashville on June 4, and both John and Breanna made their Grand Ole Opry debuts during the same week — a major milestone in their young careers.
A Special Acoustic Moment in Nashville
Between media appearances and performances, John and Breanna carved out a quiet moment to connect musically, choosing to cover “I Told You So,” a timeless country ballad written and originally recorded by Randy Travis in 1988.

The duet holds special meaning for American Idol fans. Carrie Underwood, who served as a judge on Season 23, famously performed “I Told You So” with Travis during Idol’s Grand Ole Opry week in 2009. Their duet went on to win a Grammy Award and earn platinum certification.
John Foster had also performed “I Told You So” earlier in the season, singing part of it directly to Carrie Underwood from the Idol stage — a moment that quickly went viral.
Fans Are Begging for the Full Version
Breanna Nix posted a clip of the Nashville duet on social media, writing:
“Singing with @officialjohnfoster 💙 Let us know how it sounds to you… Should we finish the rest?”
The video features Breanna’s soaring vocals and John’s smooth guitar work and heartfelt delivery. Just before they reach the song’s iconic chorus, the clip ends — and fans were quick to flood the comments:
“You stopped before the best part!”
“Please finish — this is the best duet I’ve heard in a long time.”
“Y’all sound amazing together. We need more!”
With such overwhelming support, it’s clear fans want more music from John Foster and Breanna Nix — especially if it’s packed with this kind of emotional depth and vocal harmony.
