All’s well that ends smell — or something like that.

On Thursday’s Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa read that “how someone smells may dictate whether you’ll be friends.”

“So remember that, all you stinky people out there,” she teased.

Citing “international research,” Ripa continued reading that “our sense of smell silently guides who we befriend with someone’s natural scent mixed with their perfume or deodorant predicting friendship chemistry between their appearance.”

“Our noses update these preferences with people,” she continued. “So we can base a sense of friendship based on the natural scent of a person.”

Ripa grounded this finding in her own experience, admitting that she “find[s] certain people’s scents to be repellent.”

“Once in a while you’ll get in a conversation with someone and you think, ‘Oh, that’s horrible,’” she quipped. “And it’s always the person that wants to touch you, and you’re like oh, that’s going to last. That’s going to be on me for the rest of the day.”

Mark Consuelos agreed, “I know what you mean.”

However, Ripa reminded Consuelos of the time he “pulled a little boy out of the audience” while guest hosting Live in 2019 to “smell” the cologne he was sporting at the time, teasing that she “think[s] he never recovered.”

Consuelos highlighted how that same boy returned last year, saying that he’s a “very healthy young” man.

“I think we’re simpatico,” he added of he and Ripa’s scents. “I love your smell.”Ripa replied, “We’re simpatico until you go off-piste and you decide, ‘I’m going to try this sample cologne that was sent to me in a magazine.’”

She explained that her husband and co-host doesn’t just try it out, but he douses himself in it.

“And then you go, ‘Do you like this smell?’ And I go, ‘Not particularly,’” she continued.

Fortunately, Consuelos said he “take[s] direction.”

“Once I almost killed the kid, I stopped wearing that,” he joked.

Ripa fired back, “But you almost killed your wife before you almost killed the kid.”

Consuelos teased the “interesting name” of the fragrance, telling viewers, “It’s like… ‘You Don’t Even Realize,’ or something like that. It’s something weird.”

Ripa chided, “Yeah, you don’t even realize how bad this smells.”
