Former New York Giants great Michael Strahan has leveraged his football fame into a lucrative media career. The Hall of Fame defensive end, who retired after the Giants’ Super Bowl XLII victory over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots on February of 2008, is omnipresent on American television these days. Most notably, Strahan served as a studio analyst with FOX NFL Sunday and a co-host on ABC’s Good Morning America.

Now, it appears ABC is seeking to leverage Strahan’s magnetic personality by naming him as a possible replacement for departing host Chris Harrison on their popular ‘Bachelor’ franchise.

“The After the Final Rose ceremony taping has been delayed until ABC can find the perfect host. Rachel Lindsay was their first choice, but she declined. Next they looked at several other former bachelors, bachelorettes or suitors from the show but in the end, they decided that this show was so important to the future of the franchise,” the OK! source dishes. “They needed someone who was not only popular and charming but also have a massive amount of live TV experience — which is why they want Michael Strahan.

“There is so much concern about the future of the show within ABC,” the insider adds. “If they don’t get this episode right they could kill the cash cow. There is talk about taping the show rather than doing it live.”

For those unaware of the controversy surrounding the show, the franchise is searching for a new host after Harrison stepped down February 13 after facing criticism for defending a contestant who was accused of racism.

Strahan has made quite a splash in post-football career. According to the website Celebrity Net Worth, Strahan has a net worth of $65 million and earns an average of $17 million per year.

That is much more than he ever earned playing in the NFL. Over his 15 year career — all with the Giants beginning in 1993 — Strahan earned a total of $76.3 million.
