Popular forward Sophie Cunningham might be down for a while.

Cunningham was taken to the locker room with a knee injury after a collision on Sunday during a 99-93 road win against the Sun. The injury ticked off her sister and mother enough for them to blast the WNBA for not protecting their players.

On Sunday, when Cunningham was standing under the basket playing defense while driving, Sun guard Bria Hartley fell into her lower left leg after making a pass.

The Indiana Fever guard, who could be seen yelling in pain, had to be helped to her feet and was later ruled out of the game.

Fever head coach Stephanie White had no update on Cunningham, but the Fever guard had something to say.

Despite sitting back in the locker room in pain, Cunningham took to social media and posted a three-word message on X.

“KELSEY FREAKIN MITCHELL,” Cunningham wrote in all capitals.

For the game, Kelsey Mitchell scored 34 of her career-high-tying 38 points after halftime, Lexie Hull hit a corner 3-pointer with 44.9 seconds to play, and the Indiana Fever rallied from 21 points down to beat the Connecticut Sun.

Odyssey Sims added 19 points and seven assists while Natasha Howard added 18 points for Indiana. Cunningham did not register a point and only had one rebound before her injury.

Sophie Cunningham Just Celebrated A Birthday

Sophie Cunningham knows how to have a good time.

Her teammates celebrated the Indiana Fever star at practice while she ushered in her 29th birthday. She was all smiles when her teammates gifted her a pink cowboy hat and gave Cunningham a brief rodeo moment at practice.

She wore her pink cowboy hat and danced through her teammates in typical Cunningham fashion, who clapped for her.

Cunningham was smiling and laughing, not knowing the good times would stop the next day over a leg injury that could potentially jeopardize her entire season.
