Fox News has sparked outrage yet again as a clip of a political commentator accusing Donald Trump of profiting from his presidency has gone viral. Jessica Tarlov, speaking on a Fox News’ The Five recently, made the bold accusation that around 40 per cent of Donald Trump’s wealth was made while he was in office.

She went on to make the unsubstantiated claim: “40 percent of Donald Trump’s wealth has been accumulated since he became president because of two crypto coins. The New York Times did interviews with foreign buyers of this cryptocurrancy who came over here to have dinner with him.”

After referencing Trump’s meme dinner, Tarlov tried to continue but was interrupted by Greg Gutfield who said: “You are defending an administration that covered up a dying leader and you’re sitting here going ‘but meme coin, meme coin’.”

According to Forbes, the President’s net worth was $5.1 billion in March this year, which the magazine described as “quite a comeback”. The publication states Trump more than doubled his net worth in a year by selling off shares to his social media platform and then making a bid with cryptocurrancy.

Forbes says the President’s net work in 2016 – when he entered office for the first time – was $3.7 billion. Trump’s wealth dropped to $2.5bn in 2020 and 2021, just as his presidency ended, before picking back up again in 2022. So far, his net worth has sky-rocketed to more than $5bn this year, according to the publication, and would seem to match the same 40 percent figure used by Tarlov last month.

The exchange, originally made last month, was widely shared on social media after being reposted podcaster and analyst Brian Allen, who said: “BREAKING: Jessica Tarlov just dropped a bomb—40% of Trump’s wealth was built while he was in office.

“So while Americans were dying, protesting, and scraping by, Trump was busy padding his pockets from the Oval Office.”

Yesterday, Trump hit back at the commentator – and Fox News – after Tarlov touted disappointing polling figures for the current President. According to a Fox News poll, 40 percent of registered voters approved of Trump’s handling of the economy, while 58 percent disapproved.

The TV host shared polls that show he is losing support with important groups of voters. In response, Trump said he has the best poll numbers ever and accused Tarlov of spreading false information.

“I’ve had the best poll numbers that I’ve ever had, and she is constantly saying the exact opposite. The just out highly respected Rasmussen Poll is at 56%, Insider Advantage 54%, and many others are at 56% to 68%,” Trump said.
