At a press briefing on Tuesday, Fox News Senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy put White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on the spot about the plummeting stock market, using her own previous statements against her.

Following a substantial drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average of over a thousand points on Monday, closing at -890 due to concerns over President Donald Trump’s reluctance to rule out the possibility of a recession, Doocy immediately raised the issue, pointing out the continuous decline of the stock market.
He then posed a striking question, asking, “You’re sure nobody here at the White House shorted the Dow?” This prompted a laugh from Leavitt, who responded, “No, I don’t think so.”
Doocy pressed on, expressing concerns about the potential impact on federal workers’ retirement funds. “But is there any concern here that it’s going to be harder to ask certain federal workers to retire if they look at their retirement accounts and they’re getting rocked every day?”

In response, Leavitt defended Trump’s economic policies, emphasizing, “Well, I’m glad you brought up workers, because that’s exactly who President Trump is looking out for with his America First trade policy and his America First economic agenda.”, reports the Express US.
Leavitt argued that despite the current situation, there were reasons to be optimistic.
She asserted, “Investors, CEO, small business owners, but most importantly, workers should bet on President Trump.”
Leavitt stood firm in support of Trump’s tariffs, emphasizing, “Because his tariff policies, what he envisions, is reciprocity. Fair trade practices, where American workers are put first and are no longer ripped off by foreign countries all over the world.”
Earlier, Doocy echoed this sentiment during a live report from the briefing room just before Leavitt approached the podium.
