Steve Kornacki has quit his top role at MSNBC – as the station faces huge upheaval as it prepares to part ways with parent company NBCUniversal.
The TV presenter has left the liberal station in a major shake-up months after fellow presenter Joy Reid was sacked. Steve is famed for his quirky data updates during presidential election counts. He will now focus on NBC News.
Fans can now expect to see the 45 year-old reporter on shows like Meet the Press, Today and NBC Nightly News, as well as the network’s streaming channel, NBC News Now. Sports fans can also expect to see Steve providing stats for big sporting events aired by the Peacock Network like the Triple Crown races, the Olympics and the NFL.
The data reporter is one of the rare few talents that has been popular with both conservative and liberal fanbases thanks to his factual reports.
His exit comes as MSNBC has seen its ratings plummet – and they sacked progressive star Joy Reid. The Former MSNBC anchor is not taking her dismissal from the network lightly.
Joy’s show, The ReidOut, was suddenly axed following what’s been described as a secret meeting with fellow MSNBC anchors Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O’Donnell and Nicole Wallace to plot against the network’s move away from liberal politics. The last episode of her program went out on February 25.
Renowned for her outspoken opinions on Donald Trump and other controversial issues, the veteran anchor reportedly faced resistance from network higher-ups. A source told RadarOnline, “She’s livid, and she knows everything. She’s ready to burn the house down.”
The seasoned 56-year-old broadcaster, associated with the network for more than 10 years, isn’t going quietly into the night. The source continued, “MSNBC wants her to sign an NDA, but that’s not going to happen. If they think they are going to silence her, they better think again.”
In the aftermath of Joy’s departure, MSNBC’s new president Rebecca Kutler offered words of appreciation, “Joy Reid is leaving the network and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years. Her work has been recognized with several esteemed honors, including most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series. In the coming weeks, rotating anchors will host the hour.”
