Megyn Kelly said she’s not fooled by Jeff Bezos’ attempt to pivot away from what she described as ‘a bunch of communists’ on the Washington Post’s opinion page.

Bezos announced plans to overhaul the outlet’s Opinion page to focus solely on support for, ‘personal liberties and free markets’ on Wednesday amid downturns in business at the paper.

In an interview with Semafor, Kelly made no bones about why Bezos was pivoting to a less hysterically liberal approach which she referred to as ‘weak’.

‘He’s bending the knee,’ she said.

On The Megyn Kelly Show Thursday, the host and former Fox star continued to doubt the Amazon founder’s sincerity.

‘I’m failing to sense the true leaf turning. I know he wants to fig leaf it, ‘Yay now I’m pro individual liberties’ and ‘Yay now I’m pro free markets.’ How on earth do you have a paper like that, that up until about two minutes ago, employed Jennifer Rubin,’ she said.

Rubin, a conservative voice who switched sides during the Trump era, quit the paper earlier this year over Bezos becoming friendly with the president. Kelly referred to her as an ‘insane lunatic’.

Ultimately, she believes that Bezos is doing this to keep Amazon in the black given Bezos’ past antagonistic relationship to Trump.

‘I don’t believe him for one second. I believe his critics who say this is about saving and you’re carrying advantage for his other businesses like Amazon, which is potentially facing anti-trust problem,’ she said.

She pointed out that Karen Attiah, an incendiary columnist who was caught liking posts celebrating the Hamas attack on Israel in 2023, is still the paper’s Global Opinions Editor.

‘Until he roots out people like that, I don’t believe him for one second that he’s committed to anything different than what he’s been doing, I believe the people who said he’s worried about his other businesses.’

In her talk with Semafor, she compared her actions to those of Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, who made peace with the president in a meeting at Mar-a-Lago.

‘He’s doing what Joe and Mika did. He hasn’t had a change of heart. Give me a break.’

The Amazon boss, who owns the outlet, said he is ditching a traditional, ‘broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views’.

He has also axed previous opinion editor David Shipley after he declined to get on board with the new regime.

‘We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets,’ Bezos wrote on X on Wednesday.

‘We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others.

‘There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader’s doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job.’

Scores of readers have already began angrily cancelling their subscription in protest over the move.

It comes after Bezos prompted fury among his liberal staff after he ditched a planned endorsement for Kamala Harris before last year’s election.

The paper’s economics reporter Jeff Stein called the move a ‘massive encroachment’.

However the decision has been lauded by Elon Musk, who wrote ‘Bravo Jeff Bezos’ above a post on X about the news.

‘I am of America and for America, and proud to be so,’ Bezos added. ‘Our country did not get here by being typical.

‘And a big part of America’s success has been freedom in the economic realm and everywhere else. Freedom is ethical — it minimizes coercion — and practical — it drives creativity, invention, and prosperity.’

The shakeup means that former editor Shipley will step down from the position he has held since 2022.

‘I offered David Shipley, whom I greatly admire, the opportunity to lead this new chapter. I suggested to him that if the answer wasn’t ‘hell yes,’ then it had to be ‘no.’ After careful consideration, David decided to step away,’ Bezos explained.

He added that he is currently searching for Shipley’s replacement.

‘This is a significant shift, it won’t be easy, and it will require 100% commitment — I respect his decision,’ Bezos said.

The Post’s chief executive Will Lewis told staff that the changes were ‘not about siding with any political party’, the New York Times reports.

‘This is about being crystal clear about what we stand for as a newspaper,’ Lewis wrote in a memo. ‘Doing this is a critical part of serving as a premier news publication across America and for all Americans.’

Bezos has been slowly edging away from his paper’s liberal leanings amid his budding friendship with the president and his allies.

The Amazon boss has begun playing a more active role in operations lately compared to when he first took the helm back in 2013.

In November, he fired the Post’s long-time politics editor on the heels of Donald Trump’s election.

While earlier this month, he backed out of running a $115,000 front page advert targeting Elon Musk.

The decision came after Bezos was featured prominently at the 47th president’s swearing-in ceremony, after he announced his plans too donate $1 million to the incoming president’s inaugural fund.

Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez had earlier traveled to Mar-a-Lago for dinner with the then president-elect.
