The conversation began when discussing Tom Hanks’ appearance in a music video for his son Chet. Jenna mentioned how some dads, like hers, would have refused such an invitation. “Some dads, like mine, would have said no,” she said, prompting Al Roker to joke that her father would have participated.
But Jenna, reflecting on her father’s reluctance, responded, “Hmmm,” before adding that he had refused to join for Family Week, which featured appearances from her sister, Barbara, cousins, and husband, Henry.
The real surprise came when Jenna explained that she had tried asking her dad to be on TODAY for Father’s Day but got the same answer: “Well, it’s a maybe.” Al Roker’s playful plea, “Oh, Mr. President, please,” was met with more laughter, but it was clear George W. Bush remains a tough sell when it comes to joining his daughter on the morning show.
Despite George W. Bush’s reluctance, Jenna’s mother, Laura Bush, did make a heartwarming appearance on TODAY with her daughters, where they shared an emotional moment while reading from their book I Loved You First. Laura told her daughters tearfully, “Daddy and I did love you first,” reminding viewers of the deep bond within their family.
While Jenna’s father might not be ready to join her on TODAY, fans can still enjoy the sweet moments shared with her mother, and the ongoing speculation about whether George W. Bush will ever make his TODAY debut continues to entertain viewers.
