Halle Berry is not letting rumors about a supposed conflict with Whoopi Goldberg slide.
The 58-year-old Oscar-winning actress took to social media to firmly shut down unsubstantiated gossip
that claimed there was tension between her and Goldberg during the 97th annual Academy Awards on March 2.
Both Berry and Goldberg had prominent roles at the prestigious ceremony.
Berry made a stunning appearance as a presenter, joining the stage to honor James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson with the Governors Awards.
Meanwhile, Goldberg teamed up with her The Color Purple co-star Oprah Winfrey to introduce a musical tribute to the legendary composer Quincy Jones.
However, shortly after the Oscars, an unfounded post began circulating on social media, suggesting a rift between the two actresses.
The post, which surfaced on Threads, claimed that Halle Berry refused to present alongside Whoopi Goldberg, implying that their strained relationship was the reason they didn’t appear on stage together. The post also suggested that Berry described Goldberg as “not a nice person.”
Within hours of the rumor spreading, Berry wasted no time addressing the false claims. On March 6, she took to Threads to clarify the situation, calling the gossip “made up nonsense” and firmly denying the speculation. “This is totally not true—it’s made up nonsense! I don’t know who makes this s— up!” Berry wrote in her post, making it clear that there was no truth to the allegations.
Berry’s response was met with overwhelming support from her fans, who were quick to back her up and dismiss the rumors. One supporter replied, “I know!! They always trying to make ish happen!!! Don’t fall for it!!” Another fan added, “I don’t think any serious person would believe that.” Many commenters expressed frustration at the original poster, calling out the effort to stir up drama. One fan remarked, “People truly have nothing else better to do with their time, it’s disgusting,” while another chimed in, “Daaammmmnnnn, y’all got called the f— out by @halleberry, you need to stop lying on people.”
Despite the unfounded rumors, Berry and Goldberg have had a long-standing, positive relationship in the industry. Both actresses have made history in Hollywood, with Berry being the first Black woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Monster’s Ball in 2002. Meanwhile, Goldberg achieved EGOT status, becoming the first Black person to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award.
In fact, the two shared a warm moment together in 2019 when they were photographed at the grand opening of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. The photo of the two history-making actresses was a testament to their mutual respect and camaraderie. So, despite the latest attempts to stir up drama, there is no evidence of any tension between them.
At this year’s Oscars, Berry attended without her boyfriend, music producer Van Hunt, who was unable to attend. The couple has been together since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and has built a strong bond. Berry shared that Hunt was holding down the fort with their children during the ceremony, saying, “My man is with the kids tonight. He is holding it down tonight. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do for the family.” Berry is the proud mother of two children—16-year-old Nahla Aubry, whom she shares with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, and 11-year-old Maceo-Robert Martinez, whom she shares with ex-husband Olivier Martinez.
Goldberg, who took her 51-year-old daughter, Alex Martin, as her plus-one to the Oscars, also made a special appearance on The View to recap the event. Reflecting on the experience, Goldberg shared her joy of attending the Oscars with her daughter, a tradition she began after winning her own Oscar for Ghost in 1991. She recalled, “The first time she and I went together, I brought her when I won for ‘Ghost,’ and there’s a picture somewhere of she and I.”
While some may have attempted to create friction between the two powerful women, both Berry and Goldberg have made it clear that the rumors are nothing more than baseless gossip. They continue to thrive in their careers and maintain strong personal relationships, proving that their bond remains unshaken by false claims.
As the public watches the careers of both actresses continue to soar, it’s a reminder that in Hollywood, negativity and rumors should never overshadow the lasting legacies of trailblazing women like Halle Berry and Whoopi Goldberg.
