In addition to his work as a media personality and now honoree, Tyrus has been on an inspiring personal journey. After his final match in August 2023, where he lost the NWA World Heavyweight Championship to EC3 in a Bullrope match, Tyrus began an incredible transformation. He reflected on how his physical health had become a concern during his final wrestling days, as he struggled with mobility due to being overweight.

“I could not wait to see how far I could chuck that [cane] down my yard, because I was done with it,” Tyrus said, recalling his struggle with mobility during his weight challenges.

In a recent interview with Muscle & Fitness, Tyrus opened up about his weight loss journey and his newfound ability to walk without a cane. Reflecting on his old habits, he shared, “Before, if I was having a bad day, I’d grab a Snickers, or a sandwich or twenty. But as I got older, and more confident in myself, I was able to control that more. But that was something that I always struggled with.”

Tyrus’s message was clear—he had come to terms with his struggles, embraced a healthier lifestyle, and felt empowered by the changes he’d made. “The stuff you will say to make yourself okay with not being okay is amazing. The energy you take to cover up your B.S. If you just faced it in the mirror, it’ll be so much better for you,” he added. He expressed the simple but powerful truth that, “If you eat less and burn more, you lose weight. And if you don’t, you don’t. It’s that simple.”
