Mick Jagger’s longtime partner, Melanie Hamrick, recently revealed a secret that’s left fans of the Rolling Stones legend stunned: she and Jagger have quietly been engaged for two or three years. However, the former ballerina confessed she’s still not sure if they’ll ever officially tie the knot.

Hamrick, 37, opened up about her engagement to Jagger, 81, during a candid interview with the French magazine Paris Match. She confirmed the pair, who began their romance back in 2014, have been secretly engaged for several years, but she expressed uncertainty about the prospect of a wedding.

“Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not,” Hamrick admitted frankly. “We’re so happy with how our lives are right now that I’m honestly afraid to change anything.”

The couple, who share an 8-year-old son, Deveraux “Devi” Octavian Basil Jagger, sparked initial rumors of engagement in June 2023. At the time, Hamrick showed off a stunning diamond ring on her wedding finger, prompting speculation from fans and the media. Speaking to People magazine shortly afterward, Hamrick playfully called the jewelry a “promise ring,” joking they were “like immature teenagers.”

“I giggle when people ask me if we’re engaged,” she told the magazine. “Did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Was it intended for that finger? Also yes. But we call it a promise ring. We’ll stick with that.”

Hamrick also reflected on her reluctance to plan a wedding, explaining she prefers to live in the moment. “I honestly don’t know if we’ll ever actually marry,” she said. “I’m a spontaneous, live-in-the-moment kind of person. We have such a good thing going that marriage isn’t really a necessity for us right now.”

Mick Jagger’s romantic history has been well-documented over his legendary career. He was married once before, to Bianca Jagger, from 1971 until their separation in 1978. Jagger has eight children from various relationships, including Deveraux with Hamrick.

Hamrick and Jagger’s romance started backstage at a Rolling Stones concert in Tokyo in early 2014. At the time, Hamrick was performing as a professional ballerina with the American Ballet Theatre. She admits their first meeting wasn’t exactly a storybook moment.

“There was a spark, maybe,” she recalled, “but it wasn’t like, ‘Come on, let’s travel the world together.’ We didn’t even exchange phone numbers at the time.”

Just one month later, tragedy struck when Jagger’s longtime girlfriend, fashion designer L’Wren Scott, died by suicide. Jagger expressed profound grief publicly, describing Scott as his “lover and best friend.” Five months after their initial meeting, Jagger reached out to Hamrick through a mutual acquaintance, leading to a casual coffee meeting that quickly blossomed into romance.

Hamrick has frequently downplayed the age difference of 44 years between herself and Jagger. “People will always have their opinions,” she stated firmly. “If you worry about what others think, you’ll always have problems.”

Hamrick also emphasized how their shared love for performing arts unites them. “He isn’t in ballet, but he’s still a performer and a dancer,” she said. “We understand each other’s worlds, yet we have separate careers. It’s the perfect balance.”

As fans wonder whether the legendary rocker and former ballerina will eventually walk down the aisle, the couple appears content to live life day by day, embracing the happiness they share in the present moment.
