The wife of Charlie Kirk, Erika Kirk, posted a Bible verse just hours before he was shot at a Utah event.

The verse she chillingly chose was: “Psalm 46:1 – God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Erika Kirk has not publicly commented on her husband’s death yet. She shares two children, a daughter born in August 2022, and a son born in May 2024, with Kirk.

Conservative commentator Kirk was delivering a speech at the university when he was shot. Videos depict him bleeding as local law enforcement confirmed Kirk was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. He was declared dead approximately 90 minutes post-shooting.

The footage captured a gruesome scene as Kirk toppled backwards following the gunshot.

A person, who is not the shooter, has been apprehended, but was let go by the FBI within the hour. The FBI has set up a line for tips in regards to today’s shooting, as the manhunt for the suspect is ongoing.

Ellen Treanor, a spokesperson for Utah Valley University, explained that Kirk was hit after the suspect discharged the firearm from the Losee Center, a structure roughly 200 yards distant from the platform where Kirk was speaking.

The identity of the suspect and the other individual in custody have yet to be disclosed. Treanor clarified to the NYT that the individual detained is not a student.

Kirk is recognized as the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth group Turning Point USA. His organization verified the incident.

“We are confirming that he was shot and we are praying for Charlie,” stated Aubrey Laitsch, public relations manager for Turning Point USA.

Kirk was delivering remarks at a debate hosted by his nonprofit political organization, Turning Point USA. The gathering had generated polarized reactions across the Utah Valley University campus.

Another clip captures Kirk fielding a question about “transgender shootings,” moments before a gunshot echoed through the venue.

In the footage, a solitary blast reverberates and Kirk can be observed lifting his right hand as substantial amounts of blood pour from the left portion of his neck. Shocked onlookers are audible gasping and shrieking before individuals begin fleeing the scene.

Just one shot was fired, local police confirmed. A lockdown directive was implemented immediately. Utah Valley University authorities have shuttered the campus and suspended classes for the day.

President Donald Trump promptly posted on Truth Social to express his condolences. “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”

The Vice President, JD Vance, who maintains regular text communication with Kirk also extended prayers. “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father,” Vance posted on X.

Kirk’s appearance at UVU had sparked contrasting viewpoints throughout campus. A digital petition urging university leadership to prevent Kirk from speaking garnered close to 1,000 signatures.

The institution released a statement the previous week referencing First Amendment protections and reaffirming its “commitment to free speech, intellectual inquiry, and constructive dialogue.”

The shooting sparked widespread outrage, with both Democrats and Republicans expressing their concerns, opinions, and prayers on Twitter.

Eric Trump also expressed his sorrow on social media: “Charlie Kirk is a great friend and an amazing person! Lara, Luke, Carolina and I will be praying for him, his wife Erika and their 2 children.”
