ESPN got hit with technical issues during its Opening Day broadcast between the New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers.

The brutal live TV sequence involved Joe Buck, who made his highly anticipated return to calling baseball nationally, and New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

The ESPN broadcast seemingly had no problems up until the top of the fourth inning of the MLB game at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

The broadcast group of Buck, Joe Girardi, and Joe Schroeder tried to interview the Yankees skipper Boone and discuss starting pitcher Carlos Rodon’s solid first three innings of work.

“Top of the fourth inning, Aaron Boone is with us,” Buck said. “And Aaron, you have got to be thrilled with the way Rodon has thrown the ball through the first three innings.”

However, Boone wasn’t hearing anything coming out of the mouth of Buck and pointed to his headset, letting the broadcast know he couldn’t converse with them.

Buck got the message and joked about the audio issues, referencing Boone’s past as an analyst for ESPN.

The ESPN Monday Night Football star Buck said, “Must be an ESPN thing with Aaron Boone, who used to work at ESPN. Boony, can you hear us? That’s fine; just manage the game. Don’t worry about it.”

Girardi chimed in, jokingly asking him, “Do you think he is ignoring you?

Buck then revealed that he was supposed to interview Boone during the commercial break in between innings.

“No, I do not. I think he is invested in this and now it’s over. … Well that was fun… It’s my fault, I was the one that got up,” Buck replied.

“I was supposed to do it during the break.

“That’s on me.”

Some MLB fans did find Buck’s commentary comical, but many fans aired their grievances concerning in-game interviews.

“In-game interviews are the worst,” one wrote.

“Wish they all went like this, those in-game interviews are horrible,” another commented.

“Enough with these in-game interviews. Focus on the game!!!!” a third added.

Fortunately for ESPN, the live TV malfunction was corrected by the top of the fifth inning as Boone got to speak with the network’s broadcast about Rodon’s game.

The Yankees went on to claim the 4-2 victory over the Brewers.

ESPN viewers will get to see the Atlanta Braves take on the San Diego Padres on Sunday Night Baseball and hope the same live TV error doesn’t happen again.
