GRIGOR DIMITROV was involved in a hilariously awkward moment with fans ahead of the Miami Open.
The Bulgarian, 33, took part in a tournament social media initiative, in which several players boarded a cable car above Hard Rock Stadium each with two fans.
Dimitrov was asked by two girls which player on tour he would most like to marry.
The former world No.3 replied: “Marry? You’re putting me on the spot here.”
Dimitrov was not to be let off the hook, however.
The girls pressed: “You didn’t answer the question.”
To which the former Wimbledon semi-finalist said: “Yeah, because I’m not ready for marriage.”
Dimitrov then asked the girls: “Who do you think will be a good fit for me to go for dinner with? Let’s see that.”
One replied: “My favourite tennis player is Maria Sharapova, so maybe…”
At this point, Dimitrov admitted: “She was my ex-girlfriend.”
The girl responded: “Actually? Sorry to bring that up.”
Showing no hard feelings, Dimitrov shrugged and laughed as he said: “It’s all good, we’re on excellent terms!”
The girl then claimed: “So that was a good pick, honestly?”
Dimitrov beamed as he said: “It’s a great pick. Great pick.”
The former ATP Finals champion dated Sharapova between 2012 and 2015.
They split in July of that year, with Dimitrov beginning a new relationship with Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger a few months later.
Dimitrov went on to date Scherzinger until 2019.
Sharapova retired from professional tennis after the 2020 Australian Open.
The Russian, 37, has been in a relationship with British entrepreneur Alexander Gilkes since 2018.
They welcomed their first child together, a baby boy, in July 2022.
MIAMI HEAT
Dimitrov has enjoyed a brilliant run at the Miami Open.
He has beaten Fedrico Cina, Karen Khachanov, Brandon Nakashima and Francisco Cerundolo to reach the semi-finals.
Following his win over Cerundolo on Wednesday, Dimitrov was carried off court feeling dizzy, having had to endure stiflingly hot conditions.
The popular star will take on Novak Djokovic later on Friday for a place in the final.
