Whoopi Goldberg shares emotional tribute to late View guest cohost and Republican congresswoman Mia Love
Love was one of many conservatives who tried out Meghan McCain’s vacated Hot Topics table seat in 2021 before Alyssa Farah Griffin took the post in 2022.

Amid a new age of divisive American politics, The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg shared an emotional tribute to late Republican congresswoman and former guest cohost Mia Love, in which she called for unity and understanding on both sides of the aisle.
After news broke Monday that Love, who in 2015 became the first Black Republican woman to be elected to Congress, died Sunday at age 49 following a battle with brain cancer, Goldberg paused The View‘s live broadcast to remember the political trailblazer.
“This got us,” Goldberg said, pausing to collect herself as she noted that The View family was “heartbroken to learn” of the Utah politician’s death.

“She was a guest cohost back in 2021 with us, and we had some fun with her,” Goldberg told the audience. “She will be missed. She will absolutely be missed.”
Goldberg continued, citing her respect for Love’s willingness to engage with the more liberal-leaning cohosts. “She came, she wanted to be part of what we’re doing here. And that should remind you that it is possible for us all to not agree, but to get along and try to talk about it. It can be done.”
The EGOT winner then sent the show to a commercial break by looking upward and clasping her hands together in a prayer motion.

According to IMDb, Love guest-cohosted across four season 25 episodes in 2021 in the wake of controversial cohost Meghan McCain’s departure at the end of season 24 in August of that year, including subsequent season 25 episodes 2, 3, 63, and 64. During that time, Love sat at the Hot Topics table with interview guests like Simu Liu, Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Jordan Fisher.
Though she appeared on multiple episodes of the show, Love ultimately lost the full-time conservative seat to current panelist and former Donald Trump associate Alyssa Farah Griffin, who, alongside Republican cohost Ana Navarro, permanently joined the Hot Topics table in 2022.
Love’s family announced her death late Sunday night on X.

“With grateful hearts filled to overflowing for the profound influence of Mia on our lives, we want you to know that she passed away peacefully today. She was in her home surrounded by family,” the post read. “In the midst of a celebration of her life and an avalanche of happy memories, Mia quietly slipped the bands of mortality and, as her words and vision always did, soared heavenward. We are thankful for the many good wishes, prayers and condolences. We are taking some time as a family and will provide information about funeral services and a public celebration of her life in the days to come.”
