Thunderstorm Artis Leaves American Idol – But Wins Something Greater

After more than 19 million votes were cast during the May 12, 2025 live episode of American Idol, host Ryan Seacrest revealed the final three advancing to the Season 23 finale: John FosterBreanna Nix, and Jamal Roberts.

That meant the journey ended for Slater Nalley and Thunderstorm Artis, who graciously exited the competition — but not without leaving a powerful impression.

Shortly after the episode aired, both artists took to social media to thank fans. But it was Thunderstorm Artis’ wife, Faith, whose heartfelt words captured the emotional core of the moment.

“You Left It All Out on That Stage”

In a video posted to his Instagram, Artis reflected on his Idol journey with gratitude, despite his disappointment.

“I gave it my all,” he said. “This journey was filled with highs and lessons I’ll carry with me forever.”

Faith, who married Thunderstorm just four months after they met in 2020, poured her heart into the comments:

“Love you SO MUCH honey ❤️ You left it all out on that stage and I couldn’t be more proud 😭 You deserved to be in that finale, but top 5 is HUGE. The boys and I are forever grateful for your hard work! We love you so much baby 😘”

Her message quickly gained nearly 700 likes and sparked a wave of love from fans:

“He did deserve to be in the finale! But good things are coming. Stay grounded — his talent is undeniable.”

“Even the judges looked shocked. Thunderstorm has something special.”

 “You Won in My Heart”

In her Instagram Stories following the elimination, Faith shared a clip of Thunderstorm’s final performance, adding a moving caption:

“So dang proud of how far my man made it on this show. You won in my heart, babe. The world was blessed by you and you made an imprint on many. This is not the end.”

The next day, the couple finally took a breath. Faith posted a picture of their 3-year-old son Ezekiel relaxing by a hotel pool:

“Spending the day here coming down from the last few months. Will get back to messages after some much needed family time.”

Later that evening, another reason to celebrate came through — Thunderstorm’s original song, “Out of the Blue,” which he performed for Faith on the Mother’s Day episode, had climbed to No. 5 on Apple Music’s Singer/Songwriter chart.

Faith responded:

“Proud of you is an understatement!!! God has so much in store for you, my sweet hubby. You deserved to win American Idol, but this is HUGE — and there are going to be way bigger and better things ahead 💜”

 What’s Next for Thunderstorm Artis?

Though his time on Idol may be over, Thunderstorm Artis’ music career is far from finished. He’s set to return to the American Idol stage for the Season 23 finale on May 18, where he’ll perform alongside the Top 14 and celebrity guests.
