Sheinelle Jones has made a statement following the passing of her husband, Uche Ojeh.
On Friday, May 23, fellow Today co-hosts Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Carson Daly and Dylan Dreyer sat down to deliver the heartbreaking news that Ojeh had passed away from Glioblastoma. Guthrie, 53, described the disease as an “aggressive form of brain cancer.” Ojeh was 45 years old.
Jones, 47, took to her Instagram to post the segment from the show, writing, “Thank you, for all of your love and support. ❤️.”
The news anchor’s co-workers flooded the comment section with more loving words.
“Love you Sheinelle…we wrap our arms around you now and forever! ❤️,” Bush Hager, 43, commented.
“Uche was an extraordinary person. Full of light and heart and faith,” Guthrie wrote. “Sheinelle, my dearest, we love you and the kids with all of our hearts. I marvel at your strength. You are surrounded by love now and forever. ❤️.”
“Hoping you can find peace in the love and prayers that surround you and your incredible children,” penned Dreyer, 43. “I’m so lucky to have known Uche and his spirit lives on in your family. Love you Sheinelle.”
The journalist and Ojeh met at Northwestern University in the ’90s. The couple wed in 2007 and welcomed three kids together: Kayin, 15, and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche.
During the Today segment honoring Ojeh, Melvin, 46, spoke about the late father of three’s love for his family.
“He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud,” the broadcaster remarked. “He was that dad that was on the sideline of every soccer game. He was at all of the concerts and the recitals. He was that guy.”
Jones made an Instagram post in January explaining why she was and would continue to be absent from the hit morning show.
“Hi everybody…I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she began her post. “I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”
“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not on the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you,” Jones admitted. “Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”
