Karoline Leavitt is officially the youngest press secretary in the White House’s history, according to various media outlets.

The 27-year-old teased an announcement for a big new infrastructure initiative on Donald Trump’s first day in office. “It’s going to be a massive announcement and it’s going to prove that the world knows that America is back,” she told Fox & Friends on Tuesday.

Trump later revealed a US$500 billion AI infrastructure investment in the US, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son and Oracle chairman Larry Ellison arriving at the White House to make the announcement. Called Stargate, it will build “the physical and virtual infrastructure to power the next generation of AI”, Trump explained.

She studied communications and political science at Saint Anselm College, a Catholic school in her home state. She ended up landing an internship at the White House before getting a full-time position there.

Leavitt has not been afraid to voice her opinions, and was a fierce defender of President Trump before his debate with Joe Biden last June, calling the CNN moderators “biased” and “hostile”. CNN abruptly terminated a live interview with her after she got into a heated exchange with the presenter of CNN This Morning, per The Guardian. “Ma’am, we’re going to stop this interview if you’re going to keep attacking my colleagues,” the show’s presenter Kasie Hunt said. “I am stating facts that your colleagues have stated in the past …” Leavitt said, before Hunt ended the conversation.

Leavitt takes over the distinction from Ron Ziegler, who held the record back in 1969 after being appointed to the position by Richard Nixon when he was just 29.

She is a mother

Leavitt is a proud mama. She gave birth to her son Nicholas in July last year. “In my working mom era. 36 days!” she wrote on Instagram less than three months after giving birth.

She shares her son with her partner Nick, who’s a self-employed business owner, according to the Times of India.
