In a tragic case that has sent shockwaves through a Texas community and sparked national debate, Andrew Anthony, the father of 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, is speaking out. He urges the public to look beyond the headlines and understand the full context of the fatal encounter that resulted in another teen’s death.
Andrew described his son not as the violent aggressor many perceive him to be, but as a hardworking, high-achieving teenager who found himself in an unimaginable situation. “Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be,” he stated. “He’s a good kid. He works two jobs and has a 3.7 GPA.”
The fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf occurred during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Witnesses reported that the incident began as a brief argument over seating and quickly escalated into violence. Austin, a football MVP and standout student at Memorial High School, tragically died in the arms of his identical twin brother, Hunter, just moments after the confrontation.
Hunter recounted the devastating scene in an emotional interview. The brothers were sitting in their school’s tent when Karmelo, a student from another school, entered their space. “This kid was sitting under our tent at track. We asked him to move. He started getting aggressive and talking recklessly,” Hunter explained. “My brother stepped in and said, ‘You need to move,’ and he responded, ‘Make me move.’”
What followed was a brief but deadly exchange. Police reports indicate that Karmelo unzipped his backpack, warned, “Touch me and see what happens,” and then stabbed Austin once in the chest with a black knife, piercing his heart.
Despite the admission, Karmelo’s family maintains that the act was one of self-defense. Andrew insists his son didn’t seek out trouble and didn’t initiate the confrontation. He also expressed empathy for the Metcalf family’s pain. “I feel bad for the other parents and family, and words can’t explain how both families have been affected by this tragedy,” he said.
A fundraiser on GiveSendGo launched in support of Karmelo has raised over $143,000, drawing both sharp criticism and intense support. The page claims that the “narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful,” asserting that Karmelo did not act with malicious intent. Some social media users who claim to have been present at the meet echo the sentiment that Austin may have made the first physical move.
However, the grief and anger from the Metcalf family are palpable. Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, struggles to comprehend how a disagreement over seating could lead to his son’s death. “I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. This is murder,” he told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
Austin was not only known for his athleticism but also for his academic excellence, leadership, and character. With a 4.0 GPA and beloved by classmates and coaches alike, he had dreams of attending college and continuing his football journey. His father lamented that his future was “cut short before it even had a chance to fully begin.”
Karmelo Anthony has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently held on a $1 million bond. According to the police affidavit, he discarded the knife into the bleachers after the incident and later told officers, “I’m not alleged, I did it.” He also reportedly asked whether Austin was going to be okay while in the back of a squad car.
As the legal process unfolds, the case has captivated national attention, with many calling for justice while others advocate for understanding. The incident raises critical issues surrounding youth violence, self-defense, and the emotional scars left on all involved.
While some demand harsh penalties, others urge compassion and patience as more details emerge. For now, two families are grappling with immense pain—one mourning the loss of a beloved son, the other watching their child’s life change dramatically due to a terrible decision.
The conversation surrounding justice, accountability, and forgiveness will likely continue long after the court proceedings conclude. What remains certain is that the lives of everyone affected by this tragedy will never be the same.

“I Didn’t Come Here To Sugarcoat Anything. I Came To Tell The Truth. And If That Makes People Uncomfortable? Good.” Tyrus turned a guest appearance on The View into a televised reckoning. What began as a routine segment exploded into a cultural flashpoint when the Fox News powerhouse called out the panel—live and unfiltered. “This isn’t journalism,” he growled. “It’s theater in a bubble. You don’t want justice—you want control.” The room froze. Hosts scrambled. Viewers lit up social media. “You push narratives, not truth,” he continued. “And America’s waking up to it.” Tyrus didn’t debate. He dismantled.
