Terry Moran Speaks Out After ABC News Firing, Joins Substack: “Excited for the Important Work Ahead”

Veteran journalist Terry Moran has officially broken his silence following his departure from ABC News, announcing that he is now on Substack. The news comes just days after ABC confirmed it would not be renewing his contract, citing a controversial social media post that criticized President Donald Trump and top White House aide Stephen Miller.

In a candid post shared on the social platform X, Moran acknowledged the change in his career path and expressed his excitement about what lies ahead. “I was a reporter and anchor for ABC News. And as you may have heard … I’m not there anymore,” Moran wrote, before revealing his new endeavor: “Now I’m on Substack, that amazing space, and I can’t wait to get into the important work that we all have to do.”

The announcement follows Moran’s firing from ABC News after a post he made on X (formerly Twitter) in which he sharply criticized both Trump and Miller, referring to them as “world-class haters.” In the now-deleted post, Moran claimed that Miller’s hatred “is his spiritual nourishment,” adding that it was clear from his appearance that “his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate.” He similarly took aim at Trump, describing the former president’s hatred as a tool for self-glorification.

ABC News responded to the controversy by confirming that it would not renew Moran’s contract. A spokesperson from the network stated, “At the end of our agreement with Terry Moran, and based on his recent post—which was a clear violation of ABC News policies—we have made the decision to not renew.”

The spokesperson emphasized ABC News’ commitment to maintaining “the highest standards of objectivity, fairness, and professionalism,” reinforcing that the network remains dedicated to delivering “straightforward, trusted journalism.”

Terry Moran shared his new career to his Substack account on June 11, 2025.

Despite the termination, Moran’s transition to Substack has garnered significant attention, signaling a new chapter for the journalist, who has long been a familiar face at ABC News. His move to the independent platform reflects a growing trend among media figures who seek to bypass traditional network structures in favor of direct engagement with their audience.

Moran’s shift to Substack also underscores the growing tension between journalists’ personal opinions and the standards enforced by major media outlets. While networks like ABC News enforce strict policies on impartiality, platforms like Substack offer journalists more freedom to express their viewpoints and engage in direct, unfiltered commentary.

As Moran embarks on his new journey, his followers and critics alike will be watching closely to see how his approach to journalism evolves in this new, more independent space. Will his decision to leave ABC News and join Substack signal a larger shift in how journalists navigate the increasingly polarized media landscape? Only time will tell, but Moran’s move has certainly added fuel to the ongoing debate about media objectivity and freedom of expression.

Moran revealed he would be publishing his own reporting and interviews to his site.
