Washington, D.C. – In a controversial move and quickly attracted the attention of the media, Karoline Leavitt, the press secretary of the Donald Trump’s election campaign, banned CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins attending the press conference this morning.
The internal source said the reason for the ban was due to the “inappropriate and unprofessional behavior” of Collins in previous exchanges with the Trump campaign. Leavitt, who is famous for its tough and uncompromising style with the main line media, is said to have directly made this decision just a few hours before the event took place.
“We do not accept disrespect and prejudice questions,” a spokesman for the campaign spoke after the incident. “If reporters cannot do their work fairly, they will not be allowed to participate.”
Kaitlan Collins, who used to be the host of CNN’s “The Source” and one of the outstanding reporters in the White House in the previous Trump period, did not give official feedback after the ban. However, this move immediately sparked a wave of protest from many journalists and organized the protection of the freedom of the press, calling this act of “retaliatory” and “threatening democracy”.
This is not the first time the Trump campaign has conflict with great media. During the first term and the post -term period, former President Trump repeatedly called CNN “Fake News” and criticized some reporters, including Collins.
Political observers believe that this action is part of the Trump campaign’s attention strategy when the 2024 election is approaching. The elimination of critical voices can satisfy the loyal voters, but there is also the risk of pushing further than the tense relationship between the Trump campaign and the mainstream media.
It is not clear whether Collins will continue to be banned in the next events. However, the incident has become the focus of debate about the right to access information and the role of the press in a democratic society.
