Dana Perino Is Not Leaving “The Five” — False Meta Ads Exposed as CBD Scam

On May 19, 2024, Meta approved an ad that falsely claimed Dana Perino — the former White House Press Secretary and current co-host of The Five on Fox News — was leaving the show due to tensions with fellow Fox host Sean Hannity and an alleged lawsuit involving the network.

The ad, which appeared on Facebook and Instagram, also falsely linked Perino to a CBD product called “Fortin CBD Gummies.” With clickbait headlines like “It’s Official: We Say Farewell to Dana Perino” and “A Sad End to a Brilliant Career,” the ad was designed to mislead viewers into thinking she had departed under dramatic circumstances.

In truth, Dana Perino is not leaving The Five, there is no conflict with Sean Hannity, and there is no lawsuit against Fox News. Furthermore, Perino is not affiliated with any CBD products or related ventures.

The ad campaign was a scam. Clicking the ad redirected users to an article hosted on freshdailydrive.com, which rerouted through a suspicious link (falcondownholesolutions.com) before leading to a fake news-style article. The piece mimicked the layout of a legitimate Fox News report and falsely claimed Perino had launched Fortin CBD Gummies — a product it touted as reversing dementia and being “90% cheaper” and “five times more effective” than pharmaceutical alternatives.

These claims are completely fabricated. There is no scientific evidence that CBD can cure or reverse dementia. According to the UK’s Alzheimer’s Society, cannabis and CBD oil cannot stop, slow, or prevent the diseases that cause dementia. Such medical claims are misleading, irresponsible, and potentially dangerous.

The scam article also falsely stated that other Fox News hosts, such as Jesse Watters, endorsed the product. This is untrue. No Fox News personality — including Perino — has ever endorsed Fortin CBD Gummies.

Meta has since removed the misleading ads. Still, this incident serves as a reminder of the growing problem of fake news and deceptive advertising on social media. These scams exploit public trust by using celebrity names to promote unverified products, often in the health and wellness space.
