His temporary disappearance from the show led to speculation, but the host himself clarified the reason behind his short break. So, where is Lawrence O’Donnell, and is he leaving MSNBC?

Here’s everything you need to know about his absence.

Could Lawrence O’Donnell be leaving MSNBC or is he on a break?

No, O’Donnell is not leaving MSNBC. He has confirmed to be on a short break.

During a recent conversation with Rachel Maddow, O’Donnell explained that he would be stepping away for a week due to exhaustion from continuous political coverage. O’Donnell praised Maddow’s commitment to hosting her show every day for 100 days of President Donald Trump’s second term. Previously, her show used to follow a once-in-a-week format. He revealed that given he hasn’t taken a similar pledge, he would be taking a week-off because he is “exhausted” of the Trump coverage.

He said, “This is day 52. I thought it was day 92. It turns out it’s day 52, Rachel, and I’m exhausted at day 52, and so I’m going to take next week off. And I’m telling you that now because I know you don’t like it when I just drift away. I’m just taking next week off, then I can come back and go with you all the way to the hundred days.”

In response, Maddow emphasized the importance of one’s well-being to pace up for the long run. She respected O’Donnell’s decision to be away but expressed sadness over his absence. Further, she jokingly asked him whether she could join him on a vacation. To this, O’Donnell responded, “No, no, no. You said 100 days, you said 100 days. You can’t. One hundred days.”

O’Donnell’s latest comments clarify that he isn’t leaving MSNBC but rather taking some time off the network. He is expected to be back by next week.
