A huge ship with over 200 passengers crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday night as cars unknowingly drove overhead. The ship, which donned a large Mexican flag, had a gigantic 147-foot mast and a crew of 277, according to a report by the New York Post.

Video of the incident shows that the ship, named the Cuauhtémoc, approached the bridge, which it was clearly too large to fit under. But by the time operators realized the problem, it was too late to turn the vessel around. Scared onlookers gasped as the masts, which had crew members seated on top of them, crumbled as they impacted the bridge. Video of the incident also showed several cars unknowingly driving over the bridge as the ship continued to plow through out of control.

New York City Deputy Mayor of Communications Fabian Levy stated that all lanes of traffic are currently closed over the bridge. Both police and fire rescue teams reported to the scene, as well as various city officials. It’s still unknown how many people were injured in the incident or the extent of their injuries.

According to Gothamist, the ship arrived in New York City on Thursday. It was sailing as part of a training cruise to celebrate Mexico’s independence. The Mexican government states that the ship was scheduled to visit 22 ports in 15 countries.
