ESPN is expected to make a ‘serious’ run at landing Peter Schrager after he confirmed he was leaving NFL Network’s ‘Good Morning Football’.

Schrager, who also worked for FOX Sports alongside Charissa Thompson when she was with the Network before leaving the broadcaster at the end of 2024, confirmed the news on Monday he would be departing the ‘Good Morning Football’ set.
“The rumors are true,” said Schrager of his departure. “Today is my last day on Good Morning Football. I end with great feelings, we’re going to celebrate today.”I love everyone on this show. It’s all good. But this will be the last episode I will be on this program. With a heavy heart I’m stepping away, but it’s also for good reasons and a bright future. Hopefully we’ll all still be crossing paths and we can talk about ball elsewhere.”

And it appears ESPN looks like Schrager’s likely landing spot for the 2025 NFL season. Front Office Sports reported ESPN “is in serious talks with Peter Schrager” prior to the official confirmation of his ‘Good Morning Football’ departure.

The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand then later confirmed Schrager would be leaving both NFL Network and FOX Sports, with ESPN the “leading candidate” to reel in the 42-year-old.

The expectation from ESPN would be for Schrager to contribute to their daily programming, with the now-former NFL Network analyst and broadcaster likely to feature heavily on ‘NFL Live’, ‘Get Up’, and ‘First Take’.

Additionally, the move to land Schrager would also see ESPN continue to add to their talent roster ahead of calling the network’s very first Super Bowl in 2027. Back in 2022, ESPN made a huge move to bring in Joe Buck and Troy Aikman from FOX to be their ‘Monday Night Football’ broadcast team.

Buck and Aikman will call Super Bowl LXI in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium in 2027, and again in 2031, when they will share the rights with ABC.
Last month, ESPN also confirmed they would be bringing in FOX Sports veteran Artie Kempner to be the new director of ‘Monday Night Football’. Kempner, an Emmy Award-winning director, previously directed two Super Bowls with Buck and Aikman on the call during their days at FOX together.”A singular talent [Kempner] dropped into our laps,” ESPN content president Burke Magnus told Puck News. “We could not have done this a year from now.

“We couldn’t go into the season when we have a Super Bowl with a new director. But two years before, with two regular seasons to go and then a Super Bowl? This was the moment, if we were going to do something, to do it.”
