Following the expiration of her FOX Sports contract, broadcaster Charissa Thompson has a new job.

While the 42-year-old is not stepping back into sports just yet, Thompson, who hosts a podcast with fellow former FOX sports colleague Erin Andrews, has been confirmed to be joining Blue Origin as a reporter for the coverage of the New Shepard Mission NS-31 space mission.

“Let’s goooooooo, thrilled to be joining @blueorigin for this historic launch!!!” wrote Thompson on her story announcing the news. Blue Origin also released a post on social media confirming Thompson would be part of the coverage of the launch, alongside Kirsten Fisher and Ariane Cornell.

Scheduled for April 14, the space mission marks the 11th human flight of the New Shepard program, with this launch set to feature an all-female crew; the first since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo flight back in 1963.

The all-female crew includes former NASA aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, journalist Gayle King, pop star Katy Perry, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and journalist Lauren Sanchez, who happens to be the fiancee of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.

There has also been no update on whether or not Thompson will be returning to the world of sport in the coming weeks and months, although the broadcaster has previously stated she would welcome a return to FOX.

Thompson previously said: “I really hope I’m still employed by FOX when FOX gets a Vegas Super Bowl.”

However, Thompson may be waiting a while before that happens, with FOX having just broadcast the Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

Following FOX’s broadcast of the Super Bowl in New Orleans, NBC will lead the coverage of next year’s NFL finale in Santa Clara at Levi’s Stadium. The year after that in 2027, the Super Bowl will return to SoFi Stadium, with ESPN’s Joe Buck and Troy Aikman set to call the network’s very first Super Bowl.
Then, the following year, in 2028, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will host the Super Bowl, with Jim Nantz and Tony Romo on the call for CBS.And that means that 2029 is the first year FOX could broadcast a Super Bowl from Las Vegas, with that being the next time they would be able to call the game due to the cycle between the broadcasters.

Additionally, Las Vegas previously hosted the Super Bowl back in 2023 when the Chiefs defeated the Eagles at Allegiant Stadium.
